The Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 2026, while praised for its performance and portability, struggles to justify its premium price in a competitive market, with rivals offering similar specs for less.
The Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 2026 is, on its own merits, one of the most appealing slim gaming laptops on the market. It pairs a 16-inch OLED display with a high-end Intel Core Ultra 9 386H processor and Nvidia’s RTX 5080 graphics, while keeping the chassis light enough to make genuine portability part of the proposition. PC Gamer’s testing found it delivers strong results across demanding games and enough battery life to make it practical away from a socket.
That strength is undermined by price. PC Gamer said the reviewed 64GB model costs $4,800, while a 32GB version was listed at $4,400, and both figures sit awkwardly beside rivals. The magazine noted that Razer’s Blade 16 2026, configured with similar core components, was available for $400 less. Tom’s Guide put the Zephyrus G16’s starting price at $3,699, still high enough to place it firmly in premium territory.
Performance is not the problem. The new Asus machine is faster than last year’s model in several tests, especially where the newer Panther Lake chip can flex its muscles. It also benefits from a higher GPU power limit than before, with Asus allowing the RTX 5080 to run more aggressively than in the prior generation. PC Gamer’s results showed the G16 ahead of some other thin-and-light RTX 5080 laptops in selected games, though bulkier systems such as Lenovo’s Legion Pro 7i still had more headroom and higher frame rates.
The refinements are broader than raw speed. Asus has tightened the keyboard deck to cut flex, added an anti-fingerprint coating to the keycaps and improved the hinge design. The OLED panel remains a major selling point, with a 240Hz refresh rate, 1,100 nits of peak brightness and VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 1000 certification. Tom’s Guide also praised the battery life and lightweight design, even while criticising the keyboard and large power brick.
That leaves the G16 in an awkward position. It is a very good laptop that combines performance, design and mobility better than most of its rivals. But at current pricing, the value case is hard to make, especially when the Razer Blade 16 offers a similarly premium package and a stronger feature set for less money. PC Gamer’s view was clear: if the Zephyrus G16 falls in future sales, it becomes much easier to recommend. At full price, it does not.
