Google has launched its latest Pixel 11 lineup, featuring significant updates in AI tools, camera capabilities, and a new family strategy, as prices increase across the range.
Google’s new Pixel line arrives in the familiar three-tier format, but this year the changes are more than cosmetic. Tom’s Guide reported that the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL all share a Tensor G6 chip built on a 2-nanometre process, along with Pixelsnap magnetic wireless charging, IP68 protection and a broader set of AI tools. Android Central’s reporting around the launch also pointed to a wider family strategy, including a Pixel Fold variant, while noting that the standard models start at 256GB of storage.
Pricing has moved up across the range. Tom’s Guide said the Pixel 11 starts at $899, the Pixel 11 Pro at $1,099 and the Pixel 11 Pro XL at $1,299, with preorder availability opening immediately and retail sales due on August 20. The same report noted that the base Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro now begin at 256GB, although the Pro XL does not receive a further storage bump.
Design changes are modest, but there are a few notable differences. Tom’s Guide said the standard Pixel 11’s camera bar has been reduced enough to sit flush with a case, while the Pro models add a rear HiLight LED for notifications and Gemini interactions. Android Central described a similar ambient light concept, referred to in its coverage as Gemini Glow, reinforcing that Google is trying to make the back of the phone more functional rather than purely decorative.
The displays remain close to last year’s hardware, but Google is pushing brightness and polish rather than a redesign. Tom’s Guide said the Pixel 11 keeps a 6.3-inch Actua screen, while the Pro and Pro XL use 6.3-inch and 6.8-inch Super Actua panels rated at up to 3,600 nits. The same report said the panels look especially strong for HDR video, with deep contrast and wide viewing angles.
Cameras remain the main reason to step up to the Pro models. Tom’s Guide said the Pixel 11 gains a larger main sensor and a telephoto camera capable of up to 30x Super Zoom, while the Pro and Pro XL add an upgraded main sensor, a larger telephoto sensor and support for up to 120x Pro Zoom. The report also highlighted new AI-assisted tools such as Camera Looks and Magic Capture, which aim to preserve a chosen aesthetic at capture time and pull stills from video more intelligently.
Performance claims are ambitious, but the real test will come in full reviews and lab testing. Tom’s Guide said Google is promising faster browsing, quicker app launches and a large leap in on-device AI speed, while Android Central noted that connectivity remains an area to watch given past Pixel modem complaints. For now, the early verdict from Tom’s Guide is that the Pixel 11 Pro offers the best balance of features and cost, because it gets the same headline camera hardware as the Pro XL, the same display class and the same AI feature set for $200 less.
