The Poco F9 Pro offers a significant upgrade for content creators, boasting a 200MP main sensor, a 185Hz AMOLED display, and a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series chip, positioning it as a future-facing device for mobile photography and videography.
POCO’s F9 Pro is a meaningful step up from the F8 Pro for people who use a phone as a camera tool rather than just a handset. The newer model centres on a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with a 185Hz refresh rate, and that extra fluidity is paired with a much brighter panel, which POCO says can reach 4,500 nits. The F8 Pro remains a strong device with a 120Hz screen and lower peak brightness, but the newer model is clearly tuned for smoother framing, faster previewing and easier outdoor use. For creators, that can make a practical difference when checking shots or moving quickly through content.
The camera system is where the gap becomes more obvious. POCO has moved from a 50MP main sensor on the F8 Pro to a 200MP main camera on the F9 Pro, backed by optical image stabilisation and a larger-aperture lens. The company also pairs the F9 Pro with a 50MP floating telephoto camera that can focus as close as 10cm, plus a 32MP front camera. According to POCO’s product material, the phone also supports 4K cinematography features designed to make framing more dynamic. The F8 Pro is still capable, but the newer device offers more room for cropping, tighter self-shooting and more flexibility in post-production.
POCO has also refreshed the platform inside the phone. The F9 Pro uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series, alongside a VisionBoost D8 graphics chipset, while the F8 Pro runs the earlier Snapdragon 8 Elite. In practice, both are flagship-class parts and both should be more than fast enough for video editing, gaming and heavy multitasking. The difference is less about raw speed than efficiency and imaging support, with the newer chip aimed at AI-assisted and graphics-heavy workloads. That makes the F9 Pro the more future-facing option, even if day-to-day performance will feel close for many users.
Battery life is less of a dividing line. The F9 Pro carries a 6,330mAh cell, only slightly larger than the F8 Pro’s 6,210mAh unit, and both support 100W charging. Reports on the global launch also note that POCO is shipping the F9 Pro without a charger in the box in some markets, which is worth checking before buying. The newer model also uses silicon-carbon battery technology, which should help long-term durability, but the practical gain from the capacity increase alone is modest.
In product terms, the choice is straightforward. The F9 Pro is the better pick for vloggers, streamers and anyone who routinely shoots, crops and edits on a phone. Its display, main camera and front camera all move the experience beyond what the F8 Pro offers. The older model still makes sense for buyers who want flagship power at a lower cost, lighter weight and a more balanced value proposition. In other words, the F8 Pro is still complete; the F9 Pro is simply more specialised for creators.
