Realme 16x 5G challenges established Indian mid-range smartphone market with key upgrades

Realme’s new 16x 5G enters India’s competitive mid-range segment, competing with Redmi Note 17 5G and Moto G77 Power by emphasising display refresh rates, battery capacity, and competitive pricing amidst multifaceted feature offerings.

Realme’s newly launched 16x 5G enters India’s crowded mid-range 5G market with a clear value pitch: a high-refresh display, a large battery and a price that undercuts some rivals on comparable storage. It arrives alongside the Redmi Note 17 5G and Moto G77 Power, two phones that take different approaches to the same brief, with Xiaomi leaning on AMOLED display quality and battery size, and Motorola placing more emphasis on camera flexibility. According to Gadgets360’s comparison, the three handsets are aimed at buyers who want long endurance, 5G connectivity and broadly similar pricing, but who may prioritise different features.

The Realme 16x 5G starts at Rs 25,999 for the 4GB/128GB version, with higher trims going up to Rs 30,999. Motorola’s Moto G77 Power is priced at Rs 25,999 for its sole 8GB/128GB model, while the Redmi Note 17 5G begins at Rs 27,999 for 6GB/128GB and rises to Rs 30,999 for 8GB/128GB. In practical terms, that puts the Redmi at a modest premium, while Realme and Motorola compete at the lower entry point.

Display technology is one of the clearest dividing lines. Realme’s phone uses a 6.8-inch HD+ LCD panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, the fastest of the three, while the Redmi Note 17 5G offers a 6.9-inch full-HD+ AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate and higher peak brightness. Motorola’s 6.72-inch full-HD+ LCD also runs at 120Hz, but does not match the Realme’s refresh rate or the Redmi’s panel quality. On software, all three ship with Android 16-based interfaces, although support commitments vary sharply: Xiaomi promises four years of OS upgrades and six years of security patches, while Motorola’s policy is much shorter.

Battery capacity favours Xiaomi, which equips the Redmi Note 17 5G with an 8,000mAh cell and 45W charging. Realme and Motorola both use 7,000mAh batteries, but the Realme charges at 45W and adds bypass charging and reverse charging, while the Moto G77 Power tops out at 30W and offers 6W reverse charging. Under the bonnet, Realme uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 6300, Xiaomi pairs the phone with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, and Motorola chooses the Dimensity 6400. Realme also adds a large vapour chamber and GT Boost gaming optimisation, suggesting a performance focus beyond basic everyday use.

Camera hardware again separates the trio. Realme’s 16x 5G keeps things simple with a 50-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel selfie shooter. Xiaomi uses a 50-megapixel main sensor with a secondary rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. Motorola’s Moto G77 Power offers the most versatile setup, with a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-600 main camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 32-megapixel front camera. It is also the lightest of the three, though only by a small margin. All three phones carry 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB Type-C, while Realme and Xiaomi both have IP65 protection, compared with Motorola’s IP64 rating.

For buyers, the choice is straightforward enough. The Realme 16x 5G is the strongest option for those who want the quickest display and a sizeable battery at the lowest starting price. The Redmi Note 17 5G is the most rounded all-rounder, thanks to its AMOLED screen, larger battery and longer software support. The Moto G77 Power makes the most sense for users who value a more flexible camera system, particularly the ultrawide rear lens and higher-resolution selfie camera.
