The catch is that the gains are incremental rather than transformative. Tom’s Guide reports that camera hardware is broadly similar between the two base models, with most differences tied to software processing rather than a new sensor package. It also notes that the S26’s larger battery does not translate into better endurance, with the older S25 still lasting longer in practical use. Gizmochina similarly frames the upgrade as one of refinement rather than reinvention, with Samsung focusing on performance, efficiency and a more future-proof software experience.
Price is where the comparison becomes easier to understand. Tom’s Guide says the S26 starts at $899, up from the S25’s original $799 launch price. Samsung’s UK launch information also places the S26 above the S25 generation across the range, with the new model positioned as the more feature-rich but more expensive option. That means the S26 is the better choice for buyers who want the newer chipset, larger base storage and the latest AI tools from day one. The S25, by contrast, remains the stronger value pick for anyone who prioritises a lower upfront cost and does not need the newest software layer or the small performance uplift.
In practical terms, the S26 is the better phone, but the S25 may still be the smarter purchase. For current S25 owners, the upgrade case looks weak. For new buyers, the decision depends on whether the extra outlay is justified by faster hardware, more storage and a longer software runway. If the goal is maximum value, the S25 remains compelling. If the goal is to buy the newer model and keep it for longer, the S26 is the more complete package.
