Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra leads top-tier smartphones with enhanced gaming and AI features

The Galaxy S26 Ultra, iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max, and RedMagic 11S Pro dominate recent performance rankings, with Samsung’s customised Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and advanced thermal management boosting gaming and AI capabilities.

BGR has identified three handsets that sit at the top of the current performance ladder: Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra, Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, and RedMagic’s 11S Pro. The ranking is based on a mix of benchmark results, sustained gaming behaviour and features that matter to heavy users, rather than on raw chip specifications alone.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra appears particularly strong because Samsung uses a customised Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, a platform Qualcomm says is built for the Galaxy S26 line and tuned for faster AI, better graphics and improved connectivity. Samsung’s phone also pairs that chip with up to 16GB of RAM, a 6.9-inch LTPO OLED display and a vapour chamber with graphite cooling, which is meant to help limit heat during longer sessions. SamMobile says the new chip brings clear gains over the Galaxy S25 Ultra, while PhoneArena reports that the handset handles demanding games well and benefits from improved thermal management.

Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are also among the strongest performers, powered by the A19 Pro chip with a six-core CPU and six-core GPU. Apple’s newer design adds a vapour chamber and aluminium body to help manage heat, and Notebookcheck says the chip also brings a 16-core Neural Engine and higher efficiency than the A18 Pro. BGR notes that the Pro Max variant tends to edge ahead slightly in sustained use, while both phones remain highly capable in demanding games. Their appeal is strengthened by support for third-party controllers, Apple Arcade and Apple’s new Games app.

RedMagic’s 11S Pro is the most overtly gaming-focused option of the trio. It uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, but its main advantage is the revised liquid cooling system, which is designed to hold peak performance for longer, even if the fan is audible. BGR says the phone posts very strong results in graphics tests and sustains close to 60 frames per second in Genshin Impact at maximum settings. It also includes shoulder triggers, a hardware game-mode switch, a 144Hz display, a 3,000Hz touch-sampling rate and a 7,500mAh battery with 80W wired and wireless charging. The trade-off is weaker camera quality and less polished software than on Samsung or Apple devices.
