Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip8 has emerged as the stronger choice for buyers who care about audio quality in a compact foldable. In tests reported by Notebookcheck, the phone delivered higher maximum loudness than Motorola’s Razr 70 Plus and Razr 70 Ultra, but the more important difference was its more even sound profile through the range most people actually hear. The Samsung device retained some bass weight and kept cleaner treble, while the Motorola alternatives were described as thinner and quicker to lose clarity.
That makes the Flip8 unusual among clamshell foldables, where sound quality is often treated as a secondary concern. Notebookcheck’s measurements suggest Samsung has managed a more balanced tuning, with less obvious roll-off at both the low and high ends. By contrast, the Razr models were said to show very limited depth and earlier deterioration in the upper frequencies, which can make voices, music and video sound flatter and harsher at similar volumes.
The audio result also fits a wider pattern in current flip-phone comparisons. Tom’s Guide, meanwhile, noted only modest gains in battery life and cameras, suggesting Samsung’s improvements are selective rather than sweeping.
Price further strengthens Samsung’s position. Notebookcheck said the Galaxy Z Flip8 starts at about €800, which places it below Motorola’s premium foldables and improves its value proposition for buyers weighing cost against features. For shoppers who want a small foldable with louder, clearer speakers and a more controlled sound signature, the Flip8 currently looks like the safer recommendation.
