Early hands-on reports indicate the new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max offer unprecedented battery endurance, with tests showing substantial improvements over previous models and competitors, driven by hardware innovations and larger batteries.
Early hands-on reports suggest Apple has made a clear step change in battery endurance with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. According to testing shared by Mrwhosetheboss and summarised by Spanish technology outlet El Nacional, the improvement is substantial enough to be visible in everyday use, not just in Apple’s own playback claims. In those independent trials, the Pro Max emerged as the longest-lasting iPhone yet, while the smaller Pro model also closed much of the gap with last year’s larger handset.
The battery figures are striking. El Nacional reports that the iPhone 18 Pro Max lasted 12 hours and 32 minutes in a real-world screen-on test, while the iPhone 18 Pro reached 10 hours and 27 minutes. In separate continuous browsing tests cited from TechRadar, the Pro recorded 16 hours and 17 minutes and the Pro Max 18 hours and 27 minutes with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and location services turned off. Those results put the new phones ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra in the same comparisons and point to a generational gain that is more than incremental.
The hardware changes help explain the result. Apple’s A20 Pro chip is paired with a revised vapour chamber cooling system, which appears to improve thermal management under load. That does not mean the phones run cold; rather, heat is moved away from the core more effectively, leaving the chassis warmer during heavy use. The new models also shrink the Dynamic Island by moving the Face ID infrared sensor beneath the display, while the deeper black finish and a new burgundy option give the phones a more distinctive appearance.
Other reports add further context to the battery story. MacRumors says Apple is advertising up to 45 hours of video playback for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, helped by a larger battery and the A20 Pro’s efficiency, while EU filings cited by Tom’s Guide indicate a 4,056 mAh cell for the iPhone 18 Pro and a 5,391 mAh battery for the Pro Max. PhoneArena reports a slightly larger US battery at 5,567 mAh for the Pro Max, with lower figures for versions that include a physical nano SIM slot. The same reports say the phone supports 60W wired charging, with a claimed 50% charge in 15 minutes, which would make the new model not only longer-lasting but also quicker to top up.
