Chuwi is facing scrutiny after independent testing suggested that its new UniBook laptop does not match the screen specification advertised on the company’s own product page. According to IXBT News, Notebookcheck found that the display in the budget model falls well short of the claimed 100% sRGB colour coverage, measuring at roughly 60% instead. That would place the panel far below what buyers would expect from a machine marketed as having a colour-accurate IPS screen.

The discrepancy matters because the UniBook is pitched as a low-cost but modern portable PC. Chuwi lists the laptop with Intel’s Core 3 304 processor, 8GB of memory, a 256GB SSD and a 14-inch 1920 x 1200 display with 300 nits of peak brightness. The company also promotes the machine’s AI acceleration and an 88% screen-to-body ratio, presenting it as a compact general-purpose device rather than a specialist workstation.

TechRadar’s review broadly supports the view that the UniBook is aimed at basic computing rather than demanding creative work. It said the laptop’s 8GB of RAM is not upgradeable, the solid-state drive uses PCIe 3.0 and the screen reaches only 63% of the sRGB gamut, a level that is acceptable for everyday use but weak for colour-sensitive tasks. The review also praised battery life and port selection, suggesting the device may still be attractive to buyers who prioritise endurance and value over display fidelity.

IXBT News said Chuwi appears to have responded by changing the description, although the relevant claims were still absent from the official site at the time of reporting. The contrast between the marketing copy and the measured results is likely to concern prospective buyers, particularly since the UniBook is priced at $450 and is being sold on the basis of strong all-round value. For users who need accurate colour reproduction, the published specifications now look less reliable than the hardware itself.
