Fairphone releases its latest flagship 6+ model featuring upgraded Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, expanded US availability, and a continued focus on repairability and eco-friendly materials, balancing performance with sustainability for conscientious consumers.
Fairphone has updated its flagship Android handset for 2026 with the Fairphone 6+, a modest but meaningful revision that keeps the Dutch company’s repair-first model intact while nudging performance closer to the mainstream. According to The Guardian’s review, the new version adds Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip and 12GB of memory, making it quicker than its predecessor without changing the phone’s basic design or modular construction. It also extends Fairphone’s reach beyond Europe, with direct sales now opening in the United States.
The device remains one of the most explicit attempts to combine sustainability with practical ownership. The Guardian says 51% of the materials are recycled or ethically sourced, and the handset can still be repaired at home with a single screwdriver, including battery replacement and other modular parts. Android Central likewise noted the phone’s 12 replaceable components, while iFixit’s top repair score underlines how unusual this level of maintainability still is in the smartphone market.
In everyday use, the Fairphone 6+ is described as capable rather than class-leading. The Guardian found the new chip to be only a small step up in speed, but enough to keep the phone responsive for routine tasks and light gaming. Battery life is solid rather than exceptional, with roughly a day and a half of use in mixed conditions, while the 50-megapixel main camera and 13-megapixel ultra-wide sensor have improved through software updates yet still lag behind the best rivals in difficult light. Tech Advisor and Notebookcheck reached similar conclusions, praising the concept and design while noting that performance and imaging remain the model’s main compromises.
Software support is one of its strongest selling points. The phone ships with Android 16 and Fairphone says it will be supported until at least 2033, placing it broadly in line with major premium brands on update longevity. Buyers can also choose /e/OS, the privacy-focused version of Android offered without Google services, which Android Central said is part of Fairphone’s effort to appeal to users who want a less data-intensive handset. At £569 for the standard model, or £598.63 for /e/OS, it is no longer cheap, especially against competing phones from Google and Apple. But for users who value repairability, long software support and lower environmental impact more than peak speed, the Fairphone 6+ remains a rare and coherent option.
