GMKtec has launched the EVO X3, a small-form-factor PC equipped with AMD Ryzen AI Max Plus 395 and high-end connectivity, targeting AI, gaming, and heavy multitasking for developers and creators seeking desktop-level power in a portable design.
GMKtec’s EVO X3 is the latest attempt to make a mini PC behave more like a full desktop without taking up the space of one. In a first look by ETA Prime, the system came across as a tightly focused machine for AI work, gaming and heavy multitasking, built around AMD’s Ryzen AI Max Plus 395 and a class-leading amount of shared memory. The pitch is straightforward: desktop-grade output in a chassis small enough for a cramped desk or a mobile workstation setup.
The hardware is clearly aimed at users who need more than a standard compact PC can offer. GMKtec says the machine uses a 16-core, 32-thread Ryzen AI Max+ 395 chip paired with Radeon 8060S graphics based on RDNA 3.5, along with up to 128GB of LPDDR5X memory running at 8,000MT/s and dual PCIe 4.0 NVMe slots that can scale to 16TB of storage. The company also lists an XDNA 2 neural processing unit rated at 50 TOPS, taking total AI performance to 126 TOPS, which places the EVO X3 firmly in the local AI workstation category rather than the general-purpose mini PC segment.
Connectivity is unusually broad for such a compact design. GMKtec includes USB4, HDMI 2.1, OCuLink, 2.5GbE, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, giving the EVO X3 enough bandwidth for fast external storage, multiple displays and eGPU expansion. The OCuLink port is especially important because it gives users a route to add a discrete graphics card if they outgrow the integrated GPU, a flexibility that many small-form-factor systems still lack.
Performance claims are similarly aggressive. In ETA Prime’s testing, the machine was positioned as a desktop replacement rather than a modest mini PC, with results that were said to compete strongly in multi-core workloads and to handle modern games at 1440p with high settings. GMKtec also markets the Radeon 8060S as capable of 1080p AAA gaming at a level comparable with an RTX 4070, though that comparison should be read as a vendor claim rather than an independent benchmark result. The integrated graphics, combined with the large memory pool, also make the system better suited than most compact PCs for running larger local models and other memory-heavy AI tasks.
Thermals and efficiency appear to be part of the appeal. GMKtec describes the EVO X3 as using advanced cooling in a vertically oriented chassis measuring 353 x 186 x 41 mm and weighing about 2.3 kg. ETA Prime’s breakdown said temperatures remained controlled under load, while power draw stayed relatively modest at idle and during video playback, rising sharply only under gaming or heavier work. That balance matters for buyers who want near-desktop performance without the heat, noise and energy cost of a traditional tower.
The main drawback is price and flexibility. GMKtec is selling the EVO X3 as a premium AI mini PC, and the fixed high-end configuration may not suit buyers who want to choose their own memory, storage or expansion mix. Even so, for developers, creators and enthusiasts who want strong CPU performance, serious integrated graphics and room for future expansion in a compact footprint, the EVO X3 is one of the more ambitious small systems now entering the market.
