The Motorola Moto G87 stands out in the crowded mid-range smartphone segment with a 200MP camera, ultra-bright display, and durable build, though its performance and battery life are more modest.
Motorola’s Moto G87 is a study in contrasts. On paper, it brings several features usually associated with pricier handsets: a 200-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilisation, a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 5,000 nits, plus IP66, IP68 and IP69 ratings and MIL-STD-810H durability certification, according to Motorola’s specifications and launch coverage from Gizmochina, PhoneArena and other outlets. That combination makes it stand out in the crowded mid-range market.
The display is one of the phone’s strongest points. Review notes from MovilZona say the panel is bright outdoors, has good colour reproduction and makes sensible use of the front surface. The site also praised the handset’s textured finish and Pantone colour treatment, describing it as lighter and more refined in the hand than its price suggests. Motorola’s software approach, which keeps close to stock Android while adding useful extras, is another advantage for everyday use.
Performance, however, is more ordinary. The phone uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 6400, a chip also listed in Motorola’s own specifications and in independent product databases. That makes the Moto G87 suitable for common tasks such as messaging, social apps, video and document editing, but less convincing for demanding games or heavier processing. MovilZona’s review found the device could warm up under load and struggled more with titles such as PUBG Mobile than with simpler games.
Battery life is acceptable rather than class-leading. The 5,200mAh cell should get many users through a day, but MovilZona said heavier use can leave it running low by evening, while 30W charging looks modest next to faster rivals. The phone launched in late April at €399 for the 8GB and 256GB version and €469 for the 12GB model, but discounts have already pushed the lower-spec version to below €320 in some offers. For buyers who value the camera, screen and rugged design more than raw speed, that makes the Moto G87 a more compelling mid-range option than its launch price first suggested.
