The latest Oura Ring 5 combines a smaller, lighter design with up to nine days of battery life, making it a more practical and seamless device for continuous health monitoring, despite software limits on new features.
The Oura Ring 5 is a more convincing everyday wearable than its predecessor, chiefly because it is easier to live with. The reviewer found the newer model noticeably smaller and lighter than the third-generation ring, which made it less intrusive alongside a wedding band and more comfortable during training. That matches Oura’s own claims that the ring is 40% thinner, lighter and smaller than earlier models, with a titanium build designed for all-day wear.
Battery life is the other clear gain. Where the older ring had become something of a nuisance to keep charged, the Ring 5 was said to last eight or nine days between top-ups during testing. Oura says the device can run for six to nine days depending on size and usage, with a recharge time of about 80 minutes. For a passive tracker, that difference matters: longer endurance makes it far more likely that health data is collected consistently rather than in short, uneven bursts.
The app remains central to the appeal. Its sleep and recovery views were described as more inviting than the stripped-back dashboards common on competing devices, and that matters because Oura is strongest when it is used as a trend-tracking tool rather than as an immediate workout display. The company’s current platform now covers more than 50 health metrics, including heart rate, blood oxygen, temperature and automatic activity detection, while Android Central said the latest software adds richer insights through the AI-assisted Oura Advisor.
There are still limits. The charging puck is bulkier than the older design, and the ring’s passive approach will not suit anyone who wants live feedback on the wrist or finger during exercise. T3 noted that many of the newest features are software-led and available on older rings too, which reduces the urgency for existing owners to upgrade. Even so, for buyers who want a discreet tracker with strong sleep monitoring and markedly better battery life, the Ring 5 is Oura’s most polished version yet.
