ASUS ROG introduces the Strix Morph 96 Wireless, a compact and versatile gaming keyboard that combines high-end specs with a more affordable price point, featuring versatile connectivity and customisation options.
ROG’s latest full-size gaming keyboard aims for the middle ground between premium features and a less punishing price. In a market where high-end models can climb well above the £200 mark, the ROG Strix Morph 96 Wireless is positioned as a more accessible option at €149.99, while still carrying the sort of specification sheet usually associated with pricier boards.
The design is restrained rather than flashy. ROG has used a solid plastic chassis topped with a metal plate, with a compact 96% layout that keeps most of the function of a full keyboard while saving desk space. A small media wheel sits on the left edge, alongside a configurable button. The keycaps are made from double-shot ABS rather than the more durable PBT plastic many enthusiasts prefer, but ROG says they are treated to resist shine and wear. Adjustable rear feet allow for several typing angles, while the top edge houses a USB-C port and a switch for moving between wired, Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless operation.
In use, the keyboard is described as quiet for a mechanical model, thanks to an internal silicone layer that reduces resonance. It uses ROG NX Snow V2 switches with an actuation point of 1.8mm and hot-swap support, which means the switches can be replaced without soldering. That should appeal to users who want a crisp, responsive feel for both typing and gaming. ROG also includes a Speed Tap mode aimed at competitive shooters. It gives priority to the most recent key press, which can make rapid direction changes easier in games such as Valorant or Counter-Strike. The feature may also suit some MMO and MOBA players.
Software support is broad. Gear Link allows users to switch between Windows and Mac layouts, assign functions to keys and the side wheel, and manage RGB lighting. The keyboard is also compatible with ASUS Sync for system-wide lighting control. On the connectivity side, ROG supplies the cable, dongle and other accessories needed for all three connection modes. The company says battery life can reach up to 500 hours depending on settings and usage, and the review notes that charge was not an issue over many hours of testing. Technical specifications also include 1,000Hz polling, N-key rollover, per-key RGB lighting and support for Windows 11 and macOS 10.11 or later.
