Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Fold 8 introduces a less pronounced crease with its new Flex Titanium display, although Oppo’s Find N6 still offers a subtler fold thanks to advanced hinge and glass tech, signalling a shift in foldable display refinement.
Samsung’s latest foldable has won praise for its redesigned shape, but a quieter improvement may matter more to heavy users: the crease is less pronounced. Tom’s Guide says Samsung has cut the visibility of the fold line on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 using its new Flex Titanium display structure, which also appears on the Z Fold 8 Ultra. The change does not eliminate the crease, but it marks a clear step forward from earlier Galaxy Fold models.
That said, Samsung is not setting the benchmark on its own. Tom’s Guide compared the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with the Oppo Find N6, a device Oppo has promoted around its “Zero-Feel Crease” approach. Oppo says the Find N6 uses a second-generation Titanium Flexion Hinge and Auto-Smoothing Flex Glass to keep the folding area flatter and reduce long-term wear. In practice, the comparison suggests the Oppo panel still has the edge for subtlety.
The difference is easiest to notice when the screens are off or examined closely under bright light. Tom’s Guide found that Samsung’s crease remains a single, defined line, albeit shallower than before, while the Oppo display breaks up the fold into softer ripples. Under direct viewing, both can still catch the light, but the Oppo’s surface appears smoother and feels less abrupt when traced with a finger. Samsung’s anti-reflective inner coating also helps conceal the line during normal use.
With the displays switched on, the gap narrows. Tom’s Guide said the crease quickly fades from view on both phones during gaming, browsing and video playback. Even so, the Oppo Find N6 narrowly wins on tactile feel, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 earns credit for delivering one of Samsung’s biggest foldable-display improvements to date. The broader lesson is that the folding-phone category is moving towards a point where the crease is no longer the defining flaw it once was, even if it is not yet gone entirely.
