The Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 9.7 offers a large screen and long battery life suitable for casual gaming, but its modest hardware restricts performance, making it a less ideal choice for demanding gamers.
Xiaomi’s Redmi Pad 2 9.7 is an inexpensive Android tablet that can double as a light gaming device, but only within clear limits. Notebookcheck’s test suggests the model does have some of the ingredients that matter for handheld play, including a fairly large screen, a long-lasting battery and Xiaomi’s Game Turbo mode. In practice, though, the tablet’s modest hardware keeps it firmly in the entry-level class.
The main constraint is the Qualcomm Adreno 610 graphics chip. Independent specifications from NanoReview and Notebookcheck’s hardware review place the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 on the lower end of current tablet performance, with the GPU sitting below stronger mainstream mobile graphics units. That matches the gaming results: demanding titles quickly expose the tablet’s limits, and only very light 3D workloads are expected to run comfortably.
In Genshin Impact, Notebookcheck recorded an average of about 27 frames per second at minimal settings, but performance fell further when graphics quality was raised, dropping below what would be considered smooth play for a fast-paced action role-playing game. The publication’s broader review also reported similar results, with frame rates ranging from 9 to 36 fps depending on the scene. That makes the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 unsuitable for players who want sustained 60 fps gaming or visual detail without compromise.
Less demanding games fare better, but still with clear ceilings. In PUBG Mobile, the tablet reached roughly 48 to 50 fps on low settings, although HD graphics could not be enabled, which Notebookcheck attributes to the ageing system-on-chip. Older titles such as Dead Trigger 2 ran more smoothly, averaging about 58 fps, but even there the device did not deliver high frame-rate gaming beyond 60 fps. The overall picture is straightforward: the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 is usable for casual gaming, yet it is not a serious choice for performance-focused players.
