Alarm.com launches the ADC-V530, a 4MP HDR indoor camera featuring a motorised privacy shutter controllable via app, addressing user concerns over privacy while maintaining advanced monitoring capabilities within broader security systems.
Alarm.com’s ADC-V530 arrives in a part of the indoor camera market that has long carried a simple objection: many users will accept monitoring when they are away, but not when they are at home. The company says the new model addresses that concern with a motorised privacy shutter that physically covers the lens, rather than relying on a software setting. According to Alarm.com, the shutter can be controlled in the app or set to follow rules and schedules, giving users a way to switch privacy on and off without disconnecting the device.
That distinction matters for installers as much as for end users. BGW Technologies’ Stanley El Komala told SEN that a physical barrier removes the most common resistance to indoor camera sales, particularly in homes, consulting rooms, childcare settings and aged care. He said the shutter can also be linked to the system’s arm state, so it closes when the alarm is disarmed and opens when the system is set to armed away or alarm mode. In practice, that gives the camera a clearer role: monitor only when it is needed, then shut down the view when privacy is required.
The rest of the specification is aimed at making the camera useful rather than merely discreet. Alarm.com says the ADC-V530 records in 4MP HDR at a 110-degree field of view, which is a clear step up from the 1080p indoor cameras still common in many installations. The unit also includes an integrated spotlight for colour night vision and can use lighting as a deterrent when movement is detected. Alarm.com adds that its Video Analytics can distinguish between people, animals and vehicles, reducing unnecessary alerts that often lead users to mute their systems.
The camera also fits into Alarm.com’s wider monitored platform, which is where its commercial value sits. The company says the ADC-V530 supports dual-band Wi‑Fi, Ethernet connectivity via a USB-C adapter and encrypted local recording to microSD, while Alarm.com’s documentation notes that it can also work with Stream Video Recorders for continuous recording. For dealers and installers, that combination of privacy control, active deterrence and platform integration makes the product more than a standalone camera: it is a monitored device designed to sit within a broader security service.
