Amazon has launched a limited-time sale on the Echo Dot Max, reducing its price by 20% while enhancing its smart home capabilities with support for Zigbee, Matter, and Thread, making it a more integrated control hub for connected devices.
Amazon is discounting the Echo Dot Max in a limited-time sale, cutting the smart speaker from a listed regular price of ¥14,980 to ¥11,980, a reduction of 20%. The device is aimed at buyers who want a speaker and a home control hub in one unit, rather than assembling separate products for audio and automation.
The Echo Dot Max pairs a 0.8-inch tweeter with a 2.5-inch woofer and uses room adaptation software to analyse the acoustics of the space and adjust playback automatically. Tom’s Guide said the speaker delivers stronger sound than the standard Echo Dot and works well as a compact base for an Amazon-led smart home, although it does not add many major new features over earlier models and omits an audio input-output port.
Amazon has also built in a smart home hub with support for Zigbee, Matter and Thread border routing, allowing compatible lighting, air conditioning and other connected devices to be controlled without a separate hub. The speaker includes temperature sensing and occupancy detection for automation routines, so it can trigger actions such as switching on lights when someone enters a room or activating a fan when a set temperature is exceeded. PCWorld noted that the device also supports Amazon Sidewalk and that Alexa+ remains under development.
Audio testing by RTINGS suggested the Echo Dot Max offers balanced mid-range sound and consistent performance from different listening positions, but it downmixes stereo content to mono, does not play especially loudly and is better suited to smaller rooms. TechRadar said the product is more appealing to people upgrading from much older Echo devices than to owners of recent models, while also pointing out that it looks polished and improves Amazon’s smart home functionality. The speaker can be paired as a stereo set with a second Echo Dot Max, and it can also be linked with Fire TV devices for Alexa home theatre setups.
