Crestron enhances Home OS with Multiview feature for expanded video control

Crestron has announced the release of Home OS 4.12, introducing Multiview capabilities that allow multiple video feeds to be displayed simultaneously within a single control interface, marking a significant upgrade in residential AV management.

Crestron has updated its Home OS software to version 4.12, with Multiview emerging as the headline addition. The feature lets users place several video feeds on one screen at the same time, using layouts such as picture-in-picture, side-by-side and quad view. According to Cepro, the update brings a capability first seen on the wider DM NVX AV-over-IP platform into Crestron Home, making it available inside the company’s residential control environment.

The system is built around the DM NVX-384 decoder, which dynamically assembles selected sources into preset compositions that can be recalled from the Crestron Home interface. Crestron says the setup can accommodate up to six sources in fixed layouts and as many as 18 different compositions. In practical terms, that gives installers a way to build repeatable viewing scenes for sports, entertainment or monitoring, while keeping control inside a single interface. Crestron’s documentation describes the DM-NVX-384 as a compact AV-over-IP encoder/decoder that handles 4K60 4:4:4 video over standard Gigabit Ethernet and is designed for integration with Crestron Home OS.

The company is also positioning the feature as a simpler alternative to the more elaborate installations that were sometimes needed to achieve similar results. Michael Short, Crestron’s vice-president for marketing operations and residential, said the interface was designed to be intuitive and that dealers had been asking for the capability. He added that the feature can now be configured in Configure Pro without custom programming, and that native support within Crestron Home should make deployment easier. Crestron’s technical literature indicates the platform also supports secure control and, on the underlying hardware, a broad range of audio and video features, including high-resolution output, HDR formats and 7.1 surround sound.

Crestron Home OS 4.12 also adds support for the company’s Cameo Dual Dimmer, the 80 Series 15-inch touch screen and Horizontal Sheer Tilt Limit firmware. Crestron says the new dimmer is aimed at rooms with multiple lighting loads where wall clutter is a concern, while the larger touch screen expands the control surface for installations that need more display space. The shade update is intended to improve positioning accuracy for Horizontal Sheer Shades. Taken together, the release suggests Crestron is continuing to broaden Home OS from a control platform into a more tightly integrated residential system for video, lighting and shade management.
