Ecobee rolls out AI daily digest to unite home energy and security updates

Ecobee’s opt-in Home Summary brings heating, cooling, energy, weather and security information into a single daily view, with new AI tools for selected Smart Security subscribers.

ecobee has begun rolling out an opt-in AI feature called Home Summary, adding a daily digest inside its app that brings together heating and cooling activity, weather, energy use and home security status. For households using Smart Security, the view can also show whether the system is armed and which family members are at home. Where solar panels and battery storage are connected, the summary can extend to charge levels, backup readiness and the balance between solar and grid power.

According to ecobee president Greg Fyke, the aim is to reduce the complexity of managing connected home systems. In a statement, he said: “Managing the essential infrastructure of a home, such as HVAC, backup power, and security systems can be complicated. We’re excited to take this next step in simplifying our customers’ lives.” The company says the feature is intended to give users clearer visibility over the systems that matter most without requiring them to jump between separate menus and alerts.

Ecobee is also changing the way its Smart Security service surfaces activity. A new Security Activity Summary will combine related events into fewer, more descriptive notifications, while the Activity Feed is being simplified. Those changes will be available on Core, Plus and Advanced plans. Two further AI features are being reserved for Advanced subscribers: Video Descriptions, which add context to camera clips when enabled, and Quick Search, which lets users look for security moments using natural-language prompts.

The company says Home Summary started reaching users through the app on 29 October 2026, with the Smart Security updates due by the end of the year. Ecobee is also updating the app’s layout and presentation to make information easier to find. The release comes as the Toronto-based smart-home company continues to broaden the scope of its software around thermostats, cameras and security tools, while keeping the emphasis on a more unified view of the home.
