SmartAC advances HVAC monitoring with more accessible second-generation sensor and predictive model

SmartAC introduces a compact, Wi-Fi-free sensor and an analytics platform designed to detect HVAC issues early, expanding continuous monitoring to more homes and transforming service approaches for contractors.

SmartAC is pushing HVAC monitoring further into the mainstream with a second-generation sensor and a modelling approach designed to spot trouble earlier, before a system fails and a customer calls in an emergency. The company says the new device is compact, needs neither Wi-Fi nor wiring, and is priced at $5 a month, which lowers the practical barrier for contractors who want to add continuous monitoring across a larger share of residential accounts.

The appeal lies in coverage as much as in hardware. SmartAC says its platform already draws on data from more than 90,000 connected homes, allowing its intelligence model to compare sensor readings with local climate conditions, property characteristics and nearby systems with similar profiles. That combination is intended to identify signs of declining performance while there is still time to move from reactive breakdown work to scheduled repairs or replacements.

For contractors, that shift can have a direct commercial effect. SmartAC positions the system as a way to extend oversight beyond households already covered by maintenance plans, giving service businesses earlier visibility into equipment health and a better opening for membership conversations. The company’s broader platform also includes tools for homeowners and a contractor dashboard, reflecting its focus on recurring revenue and customer retention rather than one-off service calls.

The timing also underscores a wider trend in HVAC service technology. SmartAC has said that nearly 80% of homeowners are not enrolled in a maintenance or membership programme, leaving a large part of the market outside conventional monitoring. Its newer sensor is intended to reach those homes more easily, while the company’s blog material describes a broader strategy built around continuous tracking between scheduled visits, earlier prioritisation of maintenance and fewer surprises for both contractors and customers. SmartAC said it will showcase the Gen2 Sensor at the Pantheon conference in Orlando from 5 to 7 October 2026.
