SwitchBot launches Kata, a conversational AI assistant that interprets natural language to control multiple smart devices and simplifies automation setup, signalling a shift towards more intuitive and privacy-conscious household technology.
SwitchBot has launched Kata, a conversational assistant built into its app that is designed to turn plain-language requests into smart home actions. According to Clubic, the system can handle multiple devices at once, so a single instruction could switch off lights, close curtains and adjust air conditioning in one step. It can also convert everyday descriptions of routines into working automations, removing much of the manual setup usually required in home-control apps.
The company says the aim is to move beyond fixed voice commands and towards interpretation of intent. If a user says a room feels too dark or too warm, Kata can suggest an action rather than waiting for an exact command. When a request is incomplete, it asks follow-up questions before acting, a safeguard intended to reduce errors and make the system more reliable in day-to-day use.
For people new to SwitchBot, Kata can also identify products from a photograph using optical character recognition and then guide the user through installation. That makes it more than a control layer: it is also being positioned as a setup and troubleshooting tool. Clubic’s report suggests the assistant is meant to simplify not just operation but also onboarding, which remains one of the most difficult parts of connected-home adoption.
The launch fits a broader push by SwitchBot into more local, conversational smart home control. Les Numériques reported that the company’s AI Hub recently gained support for OpenClaw, enabling users to interact with AI models through messaging apps such as WhatsApp, iMessage and Discord. BFMTV and other French tech outlets said the hub can process data locally, summarise scenes captured by cameras and act as a local network video recorder, signalling a strong emphasis on privacy, lower cloud dependence and tighter control over household automation.
