Adobe has rolled out a major update to Photoshop, integrating AI-assisted editing tools that allow users to describe changes in natural language, along with new features designed for more precise and controlled AI-driven adjustments.
Adobe has updated Photoshop with a sizeable push into prompt-led editing, adding a new AI Assisted Editor alongside a Prompt to Edit option in the standard workspace. According to CG Channel and Adobe’s own announcement, the goal is to let users describe changes in natural language while Photoshop selects the relevant tool and applies the edit through its existing generative systems.
The AI Assisted Editor is positioned as a simplified alternative to the Pro Editor, with support for tools such as Generative Fill, Generative Expand, Generative Upscale and Remove Background. CG Channel reports that the workflow is designed to remain non-destructive, although layered documents are flattened when switching into the assisted mode and then restored as a new layer when returning to the manual editor. Creative Bloq said Adobe is framing this as part of a broader move towards conversational editing.
Adobe has also added ways to make AI edits more controlled. Users can now constrain generative changes with masks when using Firefly Image Model 5, while visual markup lets them guide edits with arrows, circles, rough drawings and text notes when using Gemini models. That combination should make the feature more practical for production work, where broad prompt-only instructions are often too imprecise.
Outside the AI workflow, Photoshop 27.10 introduces a new Light Adjustment Layer for non-destructive tonal work, covering exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites and blacks. Adobe also says Dynamic Text can now follow any shape or path, not just circular and semi-circular ones. The release further adds Adobe Stock browsing inside Photoshop and an option to customise the file formats shown in Save As dialogues.
CG Channel says the update is compatible with Windows 10 and later, and macOS 14.0 and later, and Adobe lists it as the August 2026 release. The software remains subscription only, with Photography plans that include Photoshop starting at $29.99 a month or $239.88 a year, while single-app subscriptions cost $34.49 a month or $263.88 a year. Adobe also says performance has improved on Zen 4 and Zen 5 processors, though it has not given a specific speed figure.
