Anthropic transforms its Claude Chrome extension into a comprehensive work assistant, offering seamless task continuation across devices while introducing enhanced security measures to safeguard user actions.
Anthropic is turning its Chrome extension into a broader work assistant, moving Claude in Chrome into a Claude Cowork side-panel experience that is designed to keep long tasks moving across the browser, desktop, web and mobile. According to TechRadar and Anthropic’s own announcement, conversations will now stay in a user’s history, connectors and skills will work inside the browser and work started in one tab can be continued elsewhere without losing context.
The practical aim is to reduce the friction that comes from jumping between tools that are not fully integrated. Anthropic said that many workplace systems are already connected to Claude, but internal dashboards, legacy software and supplier portals often are not. In those cases, the new side panel is meant to let Claude operate within Chrome while carrying the same session across services, which should help with multi-step work such as gathering figures from several vendor sites before building a spreadsheet.
Anthropic is also tightening the agent’s guardrails. The company said the browser experience will require confirmation before major actions, including sending messages, submitting forms or downloading files. That safeguard reflects wider concerns about prompt injection attacks, in which malicious content tries to manipulate an AI agent into taking actions the user did not intend. TechRadar’s earlier review of Claude in Chrome also pointed to the trade-off between convenience and privacy risk.
Access is starting with Max and Team subscribers, who can use the extension now through the Chrome Web Store, while Pro users will get the rollout over the coming weeks. Claude’s help centre says the browser extension is available across paid plans and is already generally available in Claude Cowork and Claude Code, with Chrome still in beta. It also says the extension can read, click and navigate websites on a user’s behalf, underscoring how quickly Anthropic is pushing Claude from chatbot into a more active workplace agent.
