Anthropic has merged Claude’s Chat and Cowork modes into a single experience, enabling automatic mode selection and new integrated document and presentation features to make the AI more seamless and versatile for everyday tasks.
Anthropic is removing one of the main points of friction in Claude by collapsing its Chat and Cowork modes into a single experience. Instead of forcing users to decide whether a task belongs in a simple conversational interface or in a more autonomous agent mode, Claude will now make that judgement itself based on the work at hand. The change is intended to reduce choice overload and make the product feel less segmented for everyday use.
The redesign also broadens what Claude can produce directly inside the chat window. According to Anthropic, users will be able to create and edit documents, slide decks and visual layouts without leaving the conversation, using formats such as Docs, Slides and Design. That matters because it lets Claude present longer, denser or more structured output in a form that is easier to review and modify, rather than burying it in plain text.
This is also a sign that Anthropic is pushing Claude further towards a more integrated productivity tool rather than a pure chatbot. VentureBeat reported that the company is folding Cowork into the main interface so Claude can decide whether a request needs a quick answer or a multi-step workflow. Android Authority said the automatic mode selection will be rolled out to Pro and Max subscribers first, with Anthropic’s support material indicating that other tiers, including Team and Free plans, will follow later.
The practical effect is to simplify the interface while expanding its usefulness for research, drafting and presentation work. Anthropic has already been positioning Claude as a tool that can handle both short exchanges and heavier tasks, and the removal of the mode toggle suggests the company now wants that distinction to happen behind the scenes. For users, the main change will be less thinking about which feature to use, and more simply asking Claude to do the work.
