Apple has released its sixth beta of iOS 27, bringing refined features and bug fixes as the final testing phase approaches ahead of the September launch alongside the new iPhone range.
Apple has pushed out iOS 27 beta 6 to developers, arriving only six days after beta 5 as the release enters its final polishing phase. The build number has changed to 24A5418b, replacing the previous 24A5408d, and Apple has issued matching beta 6 releases for iPadOS 27, macOS 27, tvOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27 and HomePod software. MacRumors had already reported that iOS 27 would follow Apple’s usual mid-year beta cycle, with a public beta expected later in the summer and a full release in September alongside the next iPhone range.
The latest build appears to be concentrated on refinement rather than major additions. Early testers say the screen-recording control now clears itself after capture ends, while a short countdown appears before recording starts. Siri’s icon is also being used more consistently across the system, replacing older Apple Intelligence imagery in some places. In the Camera app, an “A” marker now appears when Night Mode is enabled automatically, and Contacts shows company names beneath entries in lists and search results. Apple has also removed a duplicated cellular signal icon when a device is already on Wi-Fi, continuing the interface clean-up seen in earlier beta updates.
Developer notes point to a similarly practical set of changes. Apple says it has fixed AirPlay issues affecting home theatre systems that require a PIN or password, while App Intents gains support for passing an AttributedString name parameter into note-creation and note-update schemas. The company has also made changes for Apple Intelligence-capable hardware, including better large-model loading, tighter background access controls and a new entitlement for continued background inference. Dictation now supports a new on-device model that can be enabled through Keyboard settings, and Apple says it has addressed faults affecting AirPods Max 2 firmware updates, Camera Portrait blur, Clock alarms on the Lock Screen, CarPlay navigation and audio, Control Centre editing and battery recovery after deeply discharged states.
Beyond bug fixes, beta 6 includes developer-facing changes that will matter for app makers preparing for the September release. Apple has added localised asset packs in Background Assets to reduce storage use by language, introduced support in AudioAccessoryKit for third-party headphones that provide fixed spatial audio information, and expanded VideoToolbox with low-latency scaling and frame interpolation tools. At the same time, some older behaviour is being retired: AirPort Utility is no longer available for new App Store downloads, and apps built against the latest SDK must adopt the scene-based lifecycle or fail to launch. As with previous beta releases, Apple’s wider iOS 27 programme still centres on the rebuilt Siri experience, broader Apple Intelligence integration and design refinements, but beta 6 suggests the company is now focused on reliability, compatibility and final polish rather than headline features.
