Apple is postponing the launch of its next-generation Apple TV to integrate a revamped Siri AI assistant, supporting a broader smart home device overhaul and enhanced processing power, with a potential release before the end of autumn.
Apple is said to have delayed a refreshed Apple TV until its wider Siri overhaul was ready, suggesting the box could arrive before the end of autumn. Bloomberg’s “Power On” newsletter reported that the new voice assistant, due with iOS 27, is the key feature that would unlock a cluster of long-rumoured home devices, including an updated Apple TV and other products in the Home range.
The current Apple TV model dates from 2022 and uses Apple’s A15 chip. By contrast, MacRumors reported last week that Apple’s code points to an A19 or A19 Pro processor for the next version, along with 8GB or 12GB of memory, which would be a clear step up from the 4GB in the present model. That extra headroom is expected to matter less for streaming than for on-device AI tasks, gaming and other background work.
The smarter Siri experience is central to the pitch. The Guardian reported at WWDC 2024 that Apple Intelligence was introduced as a cross-platform AI layer for iPhone, iPad and Mac, with Siri gaining ChatGPT integration as part of the broader rethink. T3 has since reported that references to Siri AI appear in tvOS 27, reinforcing the idea that Apple is preparing the software stack for a more capable assistant on the living-room device.
Hardware rumours point to a more connected box as well. MacRumors said the next Apple TV may include Apple’s N1 wireless chip with Wi-Fi 7 support, while a revised Siri Remote is also expected. Tom’s Hardware has reported that Apple’s latest A20 Pro silicon continues the company’s push towards very high-end performance, but the Apple TV is more likely to use the A19 family, which should still be ample for local AI processing and camera analysis.
Bloomberg’s reporting suggests Apple could announce the device as soon as this autumn, either at a dedicated event or through a lower-key product launch. The new model is also expected to retain the recent price increases to $199 and $249, making the software story even more important to justify the upgrade.
