Some iPhone users are beginning to see an early preview of an AI-powered shopping assistant inside the Apple Store app, in what appears to be a limited test rather than a full launch. According to reports from MacRumors and 9to5Mac, the feature replaces the familiar search icon with a speech-bubble symbol marked by AI-style sparkles in the bottom-right corner of the app.
The assistant appears designed to handle routine shopping tasks as well as product guidance. Users who have access can ask questions about Apple devices, check the progress of existing orders, look up trade-in values, explore payment options and connect with a specialist. Prompts seen in screenshots include suggestions such as comparing the iPad range, finding trade-in estimates, explaining carrier offers and helping choose an Apple Watch.
MacRumors reported in July that the Apple Store app’s privacy policy had already hinted at a conversational assistant, including references to account details, device identifiers, chat data, carrier information and location data being used to personalise responses. The policy also suggested that transcripts could be stored for later reference, raising the possibility that Apple is relying on a third-party AI model behind the scenes. The company has not yet formally announced the feature.
For now, the rollout appears to be narrow and uneven. AppleInsider said the assistant is being seen by some iPhone users on iOS, while Apple’s own App Store listing still describes the Apple Store app in more conventional terms, with product browsing, order tracking and access to support. For users trying to confirm whether they have the new tool, the key sign is simple: a magnifying-glass search button means the old interface remains, while the sparkly chat bubble suggests the AI preview is present.
