According to MacRumors, Tim Cook said the increases were unavoidable as memory and storage costs climbed sharply, with AI data centre demand tightening supply across the market. Reuters-linked reporting cited by other outlets described the shortage as unprecedented, and the pressure is now affecting consumer devices well beyond Apple’s own product line.
That shift matters for Mac owners because the real comparison is no longer only the purchase price today, but the cost of replacing the machine later.
