Apple’s Siri AI expands language support in beta ahead of EU rollout hurdles

Apple’s latest Siri AI beta introduces new language options, including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, accelerating international availability despite ongoing EU regulatory challenges and delays in Europe.

Apple’s latest Siri AI beta is widening language support well ahead of a broader release. According to MacRumours, the first developer beta of iOS 27.2 adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, building on Apple’s earlier plan to extend availability beyond the initial English-language launch. The move suggests Apple is trying to make the assistant more usable in major international markets before a wider public rollout.

The expansion comes against a more complicated regulatory backdrop in Europe. Apple said in June that Siri AI would not be available in the European Union at the launch of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 because of the Digital Markets Act, adding that its proposed approaches were not accepted by EU regulators. The company said it still hoped to bring the feature to the bloc and would continue discussions with regulators. MacRumours also reported that Apple previously said additional languages would arrive in October, making the beta timetable a sign that the rollout is moving faster than first indicated.

For now, the practical picture remains uneven. iSpazio reported that Siri AI is still not available in Europe or Italy, despite the inclusion of languages widely used in and beyond the continent. The publication said Apple expects regional availability to follow once more language support is added, and noted that users may eventually be able to choose between Apple’s own model and third-party systems such as Claude or ChatGPT. If that approach is adopted, it would mark a more flexible strategy for Siri, but the European release still appears tied to unresolved DMA issues.
