OpenAI’s ChatGPT Library now connects with Dropbox, Box, and SharePoint, enabling users to search, reference, and summarise files directly within the chat without uploading copies, enhancing project collaboration and data security.
ChatGPT is broadening its file access inside Library, with new connectors for Dropbox, Box and SharePoint that let users work with cloud-stored documents without uploading copies into the chat. According to 4sysops, the rollout is reaching Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare accounts on the web, and it allows people to search connected folders, open source files alongside a conversation and ask the model to summarise, compare or reshape their contents.
The change makes Library less like a holding area for manually attached files and more like an index of material already stored in workplace systems. That matters for project work, where a single prompt can now draw on several documents at once. Citations are intended to point back to the original files, which stay in Dropbox, Box or SharePoint rather than being duplicated inside ChatGPT.
OpenAI has already taken a similar approach with Google Drive, which was added to Library in August, according to the company’s own help material and coverage from TechSpot. Drive users can browse files and folders, reference documents from the composer or with @mentions, and work with Docs, Sheets and Slides in conversation. Dropbox’s help pages say its ChatGPT integration can also search files, summarise content and create shared links, while OpenAI’s SharePoint documentation says the app can search, reference and compare content from SharePoint and supported OneDrive for work or school accounts.
The main control point remains permissions. Connecting a storage service does not give ChatGPT broader access than the user already has in the source platform, and workspace administrators can decide which apps are available and whether actions are read-only or allowed to alter source content. That is an important safeguard as ChatGPT Work becomes more deeply embedded in company documents, particularly for organisations that will need to review provider authorisation, workspace controls and approval requirements before enabling connected storage.
