Google has launched a major Chrome and ChromeOS update, addressing 247 security vulnerabilities, including four critical flaws, in a bid to protect users from potential remote code execution and other threats.
Google has rolled out a new version of Chrome and ChromeOS after identifying a large batch of serious security flaws, prompting a fresh warning for users to update as soon as possible. According to the reports, the release is intended to close critical weaknesses that could leave desktops and some Android devices exposed if they are not patched promptly.
Security researchers have described the update as one of the most important recent fixes for desktop users. The stable release is Chrome 155.0.8059.39 for Linux and 154.0.8037.39/.40 for Windows and Mac, while Android users should look for version 155.0.8059.39. The package contains 247 security fixes in total, including four rated critical, and Google has begun pushing it out gradually rather than to every device at once.
The most serious issues appear to be use-after-free vulnerabilities, a class of memory error that can sometimes be exploited to run malicious code. SecurityWeek reported that the flaws affect areas including Chromecast, the browser engine, navigation and tracking components. Other security analysts said the critical bugs could, in the worst case, allow remote code execution, which is why users are being urged to restart Chrome fully after updating so the new build is actually loaded.
Malwarebytes noted that Google’s Android release may still be reaching users in stages, meaning it might not appear immediately on Google Play for everyone. That makes verification especially important: users should check the installed version on desktop and mobile, confirm that Chrome has been closed completely, and relaunch it after the update has finished. The scale of the patching effort suggests Google has treated the issue as urgent, and for ordinary users the practical advice is simple: install the latest release without delay.
