Google releases Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 for Pixel smartphones, prioritising stability improvements and bug fixes ahead of the stable launch expected in December 2026.
Google has released Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 for Pixel devices on the beta programme, adding a broad set of fixes rather than new features. The update arrives two weeks after Beta 3 and, according to Google’s Android Beta Programme notes, brings the release to Platform Stability, which means the application programming interfaces are now frozen and developers can begin final optimisation work ahead of the stable rollout. Reuters-style reporting from 9to5Google and other Android trackers says Google has listed 16 fixes in this build.
Among the more visible problems addressed is a thermal fault that could make some devices run hot and then reboot without warning. Google has also fixed a rendering bug that could leave a transparent status bar in the launcher after leaving full-screen video when the “render apps below the cutout area” developer option was enabled. Other changes include repairs for gesture navigation becoming unresponsive in that mode, and for screen mirroring to external USB-C XR glasses.
Android Central reported that earlier QPR2 testing had already focused on stability, with Beta 1 fixing Bluetooth reconnection failures, lock-screen media-control glitches and a crash that could reboot some Pixel phones when launching Gemini. Those reports underline the direction of this quarter’s release: fewer interface flaws, fewer device instability issues and more work on compatibility before Google locks down the final build. Saganote said Beta 4 continues that pattern, with fixes spanning battery behaviour, Bluetooth, launcher faults and general user-interface problems.
Google says the update is available for compatible Pixel models, including the Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 family, Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet, with support for the Pixel 11 series noted as coming soon. Android Pure and 9to5Google both reported that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have now reached the end of beta support. A stable release of Android 17 QPR2 is still expected in December 2026, likely alongside the Pixel Feature Drop.
