Google announces that its Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, marking the fastest growth in the company’s history and deepening its integration into daily life across platforms and devices.
Google said on Tuesday that its Gemini app has passed 1 billion monthly users, making it the fastest-growing product in the company’s history. The milestone marks a sharp rise from the 650 million monthly active users Google said it had in October 2025, underscoring how quickly the company has turned Gemini into a mainstream consumer product.
Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Google and Alphabet, said on X that more than 1 billion people are now using the app each month to generate ideas and complete tasks. Josh Woodward, vice-president for Google Labs, Gemini and AI Studio, said the company still wants Gemini to become a more personal, proactive and powerful assistant. Google also said the app is now used directly by 63% of users, while one in five Gemini Live interactions now includes live camera feeds or screen sharing.
The company is also pushing Gemini deeper into everyday use. Google said the app now produces more than 150 million images a day and can handle images, video and audio in one place, a feature it says is useful for small businesses making marketing materials. On Android, Gemini can automate actions across more than 40 apps, which Google says helps with tasks such as booking rides and reserving tables. Google also said adoption is growing on Apple devices, with more than 100 million active users on iOS and macOS, where prompting is used about twice as often as on other platforms.
The latest announcement builds on a rapid climb reported in recent months. TechCrunch said in July that Gemini had already moved past 950 million monthly active users, helped by new features such as Daily Brief and Gemini Spark and by stronger adoption on iPhone and iPad. Other reports this year have put Gemini above 900 million users and said Google now has more than a dozen products with at least 1 billion monthly users, including AI Overviews and AI Mode in Search. The backdrop is a wider race in consumer AI, with OpenAI’s ChatGPT still a major rival after reaching 1 billion global monthly active users in May.
