Google’s Gemini has hit a major milestone with over 1 billion monthly active users, reflecting rapid growth and a shift towards voice and multimodal AI interactions, positioning it among the market’s fastest-adopted AI tools.
Google’s Gemini has passed 1 billion monthly active users, marking a major milestone in the company’s push into consumer artificial intelligence. Google said the service is now its fastest-growing product, while also reporting that the system generates more than 150 million images a day and that voice interaction is the preferred mode for most users.
The scale of Gemini’s reach puts it alongside the fastest-adopted AI tools in the market. In May, ChatGPT became the first AI chatbot to cross 1 billion monthly active users, according to the reporting cited in the Turkish article. Gemini’s rise has been rapid by comparison: TechCrunch reported that Google had already disclosed more than 950 million monthly users in the second quarter of 2026, putting the service close to the same threshold before this latest update.
Google’s own usage data suggests that the product is evolving beyond simple text prompts. The company said 63% of interactions are now voice-based rather than typed, and that screen-sharing or live camera features are used in one in five exchanges. That points to a shift towards more conversational, multimodal AI, where users can talk to the assistant, show it what they are seeing and ask it to respond in context.
The growth also reflects Google’s wider strategy of embedding AI across its ecosystem. According to technology site Margen, Gemini was above 900 million monthly active users as of May 2026, while AI Mode had already passed 1 billion monthly users and AI Overviews had reached more than 2 billion. The same market has seen rising competition from Anthropic’s Claude, which the Turkish report said has reached 56 million monthly active users, up 640% year on year. That suggests the race is no longer only about model quality, but about distribution, product design and how deeply each company can place AI into daily use.
