At its Made by Google event, the tech giant positioned Gemini at the heart of its Pixel ecosystem, signalling a shift where AI-driven assistance is now integral to everyday mobile use, with new features enhancing accessibility and cross-device integration.
Google used its Made by Google event to place Gemini at the centre of its Pixel strategy, signalling that the company now sees its AI assistant as a core part of the phone rather than an optional extra. Mashable reported that Gemini was the dominant theme of the launch, with host Trevor Noah devoting much of the presentation to what Google called Gemini Intelligence.
That emphasis reflects a broader shift in the company’s AI messaging. Google said ahead of the event that Gemini had passed 1 billion monthly users, with more than 100 million of them coming from iOS devices. The company also said Gemini now produces more than 150 million images a day and that more than half of users interact with it by voice rather than text. Google has described it as its fastest-growing product.
On Pixel phones, the company is pushing Gemini deeper into everyday use. Google’s support pages say Gemini is built into Pixel 9 and later devices, with setup and service links to products such as Gmail and Maps. The company is also expanding capabilities such as voice commands, camera-based input and cross-app assistance, while the Google Store says the assistant is designed to help with planning, creation and routine tasks.
Among the new features highlighted at the event was stronger live translation for podcasts, YouTube videos and third-party apps, building on Google’s earlier call translation work. The company also announced ASL-to-text support aimed at accessibility, alongside a new Rambler tool that trims filler words and refines speech into cleaner transcriptions. Another upgrade turns Magic Cue into a more proactive interface that can surface context, suggestions and relevant information from messages, including restaurant reviews, menus and directions.
Google is also extending Gemini across its smartwatch line. According to the company, Pixel Watch users will get one-tap proactive assistance prompts, new health-related features and direct access to Gemini from the wrist. The strategy is clear: let the assistant handle routine tasks, reduce time spent on the screen and tie more of the Pixel experience to Google’s AI system.
