OpenAI turns ChatGPT into a collaborative slide-deck builder

ChatGPT Slides lets Pro, Business and Enterprise users create, edit and export presentations from conversations, files and rough outlines, bringing real-time collaboration to OpenAI’s workplace-focused Space.

OpenAI has begun rolling out ChatGPT Slides, adding a presentation-building tool that turns conversations, uploaded files and rough outlines into slide decks. The feature sits within ChatGPT Space, OpenAI’s collaborative workspace for pages, files and shared content, and is being positioned as part of a broader move to make ChatGPT useful for team workflows rather than only one-to-one chat. Android Authority reported that the release follows OpenAI’s earlier announcement that Slides and Sheets would arrive later, with Slides now going live a few weeks on. According to OpenAI’s own documentation, Space is designed to let users draft documents, organise related materials and request revisions from ChatGPT in one place.

The new tool allows users to start a deck from an existing conversation, a file or a written outline, or to begin from a template. Once the presentation has been generated, invited collaborators can edit it in real time, leave feedback and ask ChatGPT to make further changes based on that input. OpenAI says this is intended to make slide creation more iterative, with the assistant able to help refine structure and content after the initial draft has been produced.

OpenAI also says the finished deck can be opened in familiar office software, including PowerPoint and Google Slides, and exported as either a PDF or a PowerPoint file. That interoperability matters for teams that may draft inside ChatGPT but still need to present or archive material in standard formats. The company’s Space documentation also shows that sharing controls can be managed at workspace and role level, including the option to block new sharing changes while preserving existing access.

For now, ChatGPT Slides is limited to users on Pro, Business and Enterprise plans. ChatGPT Plus subscribers do not have access, which is consistent with OpenAI’s broader approach to Space, a feature set currently reserved for higher-tier accounts. OpenAI first introduced ChatGPT in November 2022 as a conversational system able to respond to follow-up questions, admit mistakes and reject unsuitable requests. Slides now extends that core chat function into a more structured productivity tool aimed at workplace use.
