Samsung’s latest DeX update introduces up to four separate workspaces on Galaxy foldables, signalling a move towards a more complete PC-like experience for users seeking enhanced multitasking capabilities.
Samsung has added a notable productivity upgrade to DeX on its latest foldables, giving the desktop-style mode a more capable workspace system. The feature now allows users to create up to four separate workspaces, a change that makes the interface feel closer to a full PC environment and less like a simple phone accessory, according to Tom’s Guide.
Each workspace can hold as many as five apps, so the system can manage 20 apps across four desktops. That layout is designed to make it easier to separate tasks by project or context, with navigation handled through a three-line icon at the lower-left corner of the interface. Tom’s Guide said the arrangement is familiar to anyone who has used virtual desktops in Windows, though the five-app limit per workspace may feel restrictive for heavier users.
Samsung’s own DeX documentation describes the platform as a way to turn compatible Galaxy devices into a PC-like workstation, with wired and wireless display support, drag-and-drop functions and multi-window multitasking. SamMobile reported that the new multi-workspace approach arrives with One UI 8 based on Android 16, bringing a redesigned DeX interface to devices including the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, with a wider rollout expected across other flagship models.
Even with the new organisation tools, the core DeX experience remains intact. Dual-window multitasking and resizable app windows are still present, while SamMobile has also shown that later refinements in One UI 8.5 add a switch to screen mirroring, giving users a quicker way to move between desktop mode and a simpler display output. Samsung Business Insights has long positioned DeX as a practical option for productivity with a keyboard, mouse and office software, and the latest changes suggest Samsung is pushing it further towards a genuine laptop alternative.
