UBports has expanded Ubuntu Touch 24.04-2.x support to eight more handsets, refreshed its browser engine and issued security fixes in a staged maintenance update.
The UBports Foundation has pushed out Ubuntu Touch 24.04-2.1, alongside Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.5, in a pair of maintenance releases that widen device coverage, refresh the browser stack and close a security gap affecting the mobile operating system. The update is rolling out through the normal system updater, with the newer 24.04-2.1 build reaching devices already on the 24.04-2.x track and 24.04-1.5 serving users still on the earlier series.
The most visible change in 24.04-2.1 is broader hardware support. UBports has added eight more devices to the 24.04-2.x line-up, including the Nothing Phone (1), the OnePlus Nord N10 and N100, the Volla Tablet, several Redmi Note 9 variants and the Poco M2 Pro. That expansion matters because Ubuntu Touch remains a niche platform, and each new officially supported handset reduces the amount of community-maintained porting required to keep the system usable on recent hardware.
Another important update is to Morph Browser, the default web browser on Ubuntu Touch. According to the project, it now uses QtWebEngine 6.11.2 based on Chromium 140, bringing additional security fixes as well as functional changes. UBports says tab switching has been improved and user scripts are once again supported in the Qt 6-based version. The release also tidies up a series of everyday problems, including more reliable push notifications, corrected time zone display, and proper on-screen keyboard behaviour with Libertine applications.
The maintenance release also addresses a range of device-specific faults. UBports says it has fixed an issue in which the mouse pointer could become trapped after screen rotation, a problem that was particularly noticeable for Volla Tablet owners using the keyboard cover. The flashlight toggle now works again on the Volla Phone Plinius. On the Android compatibility side, Waydroid has been updated to version 1.6.3, with patches for Android 16 images and devices, while QtMir has received changes intended to improve Waydroid’s multi-window handling. UBports says the security fixes are significant enough that all users should install the updates as soon as they become available.
The older 24.04-1.5 release is narrower in scope, but it carries the same key security fixes and several of the usability improvements, including more dependable notifications, corrected time zone handling and the pointer-rotation fix. UBports also flags two known issues. Some users moving from 24.04-1.5 or earlier to the 24.04-2.x series may find that Morph Browser does not launch, in which case the foundation has published a temporary workaround and says a permanent fix is due in the next update. Separately, owners of the Pixel 3a and 3a XL may need to reboot and retry if an upgrade to 24.04-1.5 fails at first. For now, the company says the updates are being distributed gradually through System Settings > Updates, with users on 24.04-1.4 required to step through 24.04-1.5 before moving onwards.
