Violoop, a palm-sized AI device capable of independent automation and enhanced security features, prepares for its Kickstarter launch, promising to transform how users interact with AI assistants on their computers amidst rising demand and investor backing.
With its Kickstarter campaign now set for 15 September 2026, Violoop is trying to turn a trade-show curiosity into a new class of desktop accessory: a separate AI box that watches a computer screen, understands what is on it and carries out work without relying on the host machine’s own processor. As the launch approaches, the company’s current pre-release material points to a starting Kickstarter price of $399, with early deposit holders promised an effective floor of $369, and a retail target of $699. That matters because some early hands-on coverage from IFA Berlin had put the later price higher, underlining how key commercial details are still settling before the crowdfunding campaign opens.
The device, shown at IFA by BVIO Technology, is being marketed as hardware for people who want agent-style automation on an existing computer rather than on a new AI PC. PC Guide reported that Violoop was being demonstrated in Hall 5.2, booth 406, and described it as a palm-sized unit that connects through HDMI and USB so it can both see the screen and act on the machine. An earlier Cyzone profile said the box was designed to work without software installation, using one HDMI cable and one Type-C cable to plug into almost any computer. BVIO’s own pitch, reproduced by PC Guide, is that “computers will need to support AI as a second participant”.
That pitch rests on a familiar promise and a less familiar control model. Violoop says it can carry out “multi-step work”, use APIs and scripts where possible, and fall back to direct keyboard-and-mouse control where no formal integration exists. PC Guide also reported support for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Codex, while Fooshya said the device builds a memory graph so that it can learn a user’s habits over time. The company’s argument is that keeping this intelligence in a separate box preserves the performance and battery life of the laptop it is attached to. The unresolved question is whether that separation also makes the system meaningfully safer, or simply shifts the same trust problem into different hardware.
Security is where Violoop is trying hardest to differentiate itself. Fooshya reported that the box uses a dedicated security chip to ask for approval before sensitive actions, and PC Guide’s reproduction of the company’s launch material goes further, saying approved work can continue in an “Away Mode” and that requests for confirmation can be reviewed remotely through a mobile app. Cyzone’s earlier reporting framed the entire project as a response to the weakness of pure software agents, saying the founders concluded after extensive internal testing that software alone could not solve prompt-injection and authorisation risks. That is the central wager behind the product: that a physical approval path, rather than a dialogue box on the same machine, is a more credible brake on an autonomous agent.
The commercial picture around Violoop has become clearer in the past week, even if not every figure matches. Fooshya and Investor’s Daily both said the device would move to a $699 retail price after the Kickstarter launch, while Tom’s Guide’s hands-on piece had suggested $799. Current Violoop pre-launch pages now align with the lower figure. Shipping timing is also still somewhat fluid. PC Guide said shipments were expected to begin in October 2026, while Violoop’s own recent blog posts describe delivery starting within roughly a month of the campaign ending, explicitly as an estimate rather than a guarantee.
Funding and market traction help explain why the company is pressing ahead so quickly. Sina Finance, citing Securities Times, said on 1 September that Violoop had completed an angel round and Pre-A financing worth about RMB100 million. Investor’s Daily reported the same round as RMB100 million-level financing and named Lenovo Venture Capital, CICC Porsche, BlueRun Ventures, YuanSheng Capital, Qifu Capital and Zero2IPO Ventures among the backers. Yet Beijing News described the latest raise as several hundred million yuan, showing that even the size of the round is being reported differently across Chinese business outlets. Earlier in the year, 36Kr said Violoop had completed seed and angel financing within a month and that the money would go towards mass production, global market promotion and continued construction of what it called the Action Model dataset.
Investor’s Daily added one of the most concrete demand signals so far, saying Violoop had already collected deposits from about 12,000 people worldwide. The same report said Lenovo was not just an investor but was forming a deeper industrial relationship with the company, covering manufacturing, supply chain support, global channels and brand resources. If accurate, that would give Violoop more operational backing than many Kickstarter hardware projects enjoy. It would also help explain how the company expects to move from an IFA demo in early September to first deliveries as soon as October.
The startup’s own timeline suggests how quickly the plan has changed. Cyzone wrote in April that Violoop was expected to reach Kickstarter in the second quarter of 2026; the actual launch window has slipped into mid-September. That report also sketched out the background of founder Jaylen He, describing him as a serial entrepreneur who moved from Shenyang to Zimbabwe in 2005, studied software engineering at UC San Diego from 2012, and previously built ventures ranging from a student recruitment platform with 300,000 users and more than 120 corporate customers to a US property business that handled more than $100 million in transactions. Whether or not that biography reassures buyers, it does show that Violoop is being built by founders who are selling a business system as much as a gadget.
For now, that is the right way to view it. Violoop is not yet a shipped mass-market product but a crowdfunded hardware bet on a specific idea: that the most useful AI assistant for everyday computing may be a second machine sitting beside the first one, not another app running inside it. The appeal is obvious for users who do not want to replace a perfectly serviceable laptop simply to gain access to local AI features. But until backers receive units after the 15 September campaign, the strongest evidence remains a mixture of trade-show demonstrations, company material and investor-backed ambition rather than independent long-term testing.
