Xiaomi has revealed HyperOS 4, a major update featuring a glass-like interface, enhanced AI capabilities, and performance improvements, debuting first in China before expanding globally later this year.
Xiaomi has unveiled HyperOS 4, its next major software layer, with a sharper visual overhaul, deeper AI integration and a staged rollout that begins in China on 14 August. According to Gizbot, the first public beta will reach the latest flagship phones and premium tablets before expanding to more devices later in August and September. The launch underlines how Xiaomi is treating HyperOS less as a routine Android skin update and more as a wider platform for its phones, tablets, wearables and connected home products.
The most visible change is a new glass-like interface, which Xiaomi says is designed to make menus, controls and widgets feel more layered and fluid. The update adds more flexibility to the lock screen, including repositionable clocks and notifications, while folders and widgets can be arranged more freely. Gizmochina reported earlier this year that HyperOS 4 is expected to be based on Android 17, with further changes aimed at privacy, security and system architecture rather than a simple visual refresh. A separate report from Xiaomi-focused site MIUIROM said devices already in Android 17 testing programmes are likely to be among the first to receive the software.
Performance improvements are also central to the release. Xiaomi claims apps open 18% faster after extended daily use, while camera processing has been cut, including faster HDR photo handling and shorter cold-start times for the native camera app. The company is also leaning more heavily on AI, with an upgraded Super AI Assistant 2.0 powered by Xiaomi’s MiMo model for transcription, note-taking and smart-home control. Gizbot said the software also introduces a contextual assistant view around the camera cut-out, along with a new Inspiration Ball tool for actions such as navigation and shopping searches from on-screen content.
The rollout will be phased. Xiaomi’s first batch includes the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, 17 Pro Max, 17 Pro, 17, Redmi K90 Pro Max, Redmi K90, Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro and Xiaomi Pad 8. The second wave, due on 27 August, adds models including the Xiaomi 17 Max, Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Redmi K90 Ultra, while a third group is scheduled for 17 September and includes the Redmi K80 series, Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 and several tablets. Gizmochina has said a broader stable release could follow in October for older devices, while other reports expect the first global announcement after the China launch.
