Xiaomi’s HyperOS 4 brings iPhone-style sharing and Mac control to its phones

Xiaomi is expanding HyperOS 4 with file sharing, notification syncing and phone control across iPhone, iPad and Mac, though support remains limited while the features are tested.

Xiaomi has started widening the reach of HyperOS 4 with a set of features that link its phones more closely to Apple hardware, including the iPhone, iPad and Mac. The update first appeared on the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, and Xiaomi plans to extend it to more devices from 15 October, according to reporting from Technobaboy and Technode.

The most notable change is broader cross-platform sharing. Users will be able to move photos, files, contacts and web pages between Xiaomi and Apple devices, while cloud photo albums will also remain visible across both ecosystems. Notifications and instant messages are being synced as well, which should let users reply without constantly switching between phones, according to the reports.

Xiaomi is also adding a desktop-style layer for Apple users. On Mac and iPad, the company’s connectivity app will allow a Xiaomi phone to be viewed and controlled from a larger screen. That feature depends on a shared Xiaomi account, compatible software versions and a working network connection, the reports said.

The company is also testing a transfer tool that would work in a similar way to Apple’s AirDrop, enabling faster file sharing between Xiaomi and Apple devices. Other coverage describes a Smart Share-style desktop function that could further reduce the gap between Xiaomi handsets and Apple computers, although Xiaomi has not yet said how widely these tools will be supported.

For now, the integration appears to be limited to testing on the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, and Xiaomi has not confirmed whether all HyperOS 4 devices will receive the Apple-facing functions or which Apple models will be supported. Even so, the move marks a significant attempt to make Xiaomi’s software more useful for people who move between the two ecosystems every day.
