Acer's PA100 portable SSD accelerates mobile storage with high-speed, durability and broad device compatibility

Acer has launched the PA100 Portable SSD, a lightweight, robust external drive offering fast transfer speeds and wide compatibility, aimed at users seeking reliable, portable storage to keep pace with modern workflows.

Acer has unveiled the PA100 Portable SSD, a compact external drive aimed at users who want faster everyday storage without giving up mobility. The company says the device is designed for file transfers, backups and light content work across mixed device setups, reflecting the wider shift from simple capacity expansion towards storage that can keep pace with modern workflows.

The drive uses USB 3.2 Gen 1 and is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 560 MB/s and write speeds of up to 430 MB/s. That places it well above typical mechanical external drives for routine tasks such as moving large media files, managing documents and accessing projects on the move. Acer is offering the PA100 in 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB versions, giving users scope to match capacity to their storage habits.

Physical design is a clear part of the pitch. Acer says the PA100 has a slim 9 mm profile, weighs less than 27 grams and uses a reinforced build intended to better withstand daily travel and handling. The package includes a 2-in-1 USB-C to C and USB-A cable, which should make it easier to connect to PCs, tablets and smartphones without carrying a separate adaptor. According to Acer’s user guide, the drive is also compatible with Windows, macOS, Android, HarmonyOS and PlayStation devices.

Power efficiency is another point Acer is emphasising. The company says the PA100 uses less than 3W during operation and as little as 0.62W when idle, with an optimised thermal design intended to maintain stable performance during longer transfers. It is backed by a three-year limited warranty, which positions it as a practical option for users seeking portable storage for regular use rather than a short-term accessory.
