Amaran expands into desktop audio with a versatile $99 wireless microphone designed for livestreamers and podcasters, featuring innovative noise reduction and extensive connectivity options.
amaran enters desktop audio with $99 wireless creator mic
amaran has moved beyond lighting with the launch of the Mic, a $99 desktop microphone aimed at livestreamers, podcasters and other creators working from a desk. The company said the new product is intended to sit alongside its Verge desktop lighting range, giving it a more complete creator setup rather than a single accessory line.
The microphone can be used either over USB-C or wirelessly through a pre-paired USB-C receiver. According to amaran, it uses the 2.4GHz band and can reach up to 50m in unobstructed conditions. That places it in a crowded segment of the creator market, where buyers can choose from established USB and wireless models from brands including Shure, Rode and DJI, which continue to dominate most current “best microphone” round-ups from specialist review sites.
At the centre of the design is a 30mm dynamic capsule with a supercardioid pickup pattern, which is intended to keep speech prominent while reducing sound from the sides. amaran says the mic records at 48kHz/24-bit, offers an 86dB signal-to-noise ratio and can handle sound pressure levels up to 130dB with a built-in limiter to reduce clipping. The company also claims up to 60 hours of battery life.
Noise handling is a major part of the pitch. Users can switch between Original Sound, Standard Noise Reduction and AI Noise Reduction, depending on how much processing they want. amaran says the lighter mode is meant for steady noise such as fans and air conditioning, while the stronger setting is designed for more unpredictable interruptions such as keyboard clicks and traffic. The microphone also includes on-device controls for gain, monitoring, muting and battery checks, plus a 3.5mm headphone jack for direct monitoring.
The Mic ships with a weighted desktop stand and works with amaran Desktop software, which adds EQ presets, custom curves, vocal enhancement, a noise gate and a limiter. A low-profile boom arm will also be offered, with both the standalone arm and a kit version due in the fourth quarter of 2026. The desktop stand kit is available now in White or Charcoal, while the boom arm kit is priced at $125 and the arm alone at $49.
