Amber has introduced the UV200, a compact USB flash drive aimed at vehicles that increasingly depend on continuous data capture, from dashcams and parking monitors to in-car media playback. The company says the drive is designed for workloads that are more demanding than ordinary file transfers, where long recording sessions can expose weak sustained-write performance and shorten the life of consumer storage.
According to Amber, the UV200 uses a USB 3.2 Gen1 interface and is rated for read speeds of up to 200 MB/s and write speeds of up to 80 MB/s, with sustained full-capacity writing of at least 60 MB/s. That distinction matters in automotive use, where footage can be recorded continuously and then overwritten in loops, placing a heavier strain on flash memory than occasional copying between devices.
The drive is built around an integrated MUDP structure and a low-profile design intended to stay connected inside a cabin without protruding into neighbouring ports. Amber says the UV200 is meant to remain unobtrusive in vehicles where storage may be left in place for long periods. It is also rated to operate from -25C to 75C, with storage tolerance from -40C to 85C, alongside 1-metre drop protection for handling and transport.
The storage uses high-endurance 3D TLC NAND, which is relevant because automotive flash products often need to endure repeated overwrite cycles, vibration and temperature swings. KIOXIA, for example, markets automotive flash for in-vehicle infotainment and driver-assistance systems across a wider temperature range, while Delkin’s industrial embedded USB drives are built for rugged embedded uses and Kingston’s IronKey line shows how the USB market also serves security-focused applications with hardware encryption. Amber positions the UV200 differently: not as a secure enterprise device, but as a durable recording medium for drivers who need reliable storage in daily use. It ships from 128 GB and comes with a three-year limited warranty.
