Aqara’s new FP400 sensor introduces a privacy-conscious alternative to cameras, using 60GHz radar and AI to detect and track up to ten people, offering granular automation and multi-protocol connectivity for a smarter, safer home.
Aqara has put its Spatial Multi-Sensor FP400 on sale worldwide, pitching it as a privacy-focused alternative to camera-based room monitoring. The company says the sensor uses 60GHz mmWave radar and AI-assisted sensing to detect occupancy, movement and context, enabling more granular home automation than a simple motion sensor.
According to Aqara’s product information and documentation, the FP400 can track up to ten people at once and supports real-time multi-person positioning. It also allows users to define up to eight custom zones, built on a 320-grid layout, so lighting, climate and other automations can be tied to specific areas within a room rather than to the room as a whole.
Aqara says a single unit can cover as much as 10 by 8 metres with a 120-degree field of view. The sensor is designed to reduce false triggers from pets and robot vacuum cleaners, while an integrated light sensor lets it react both to human presence and to ambient brightness. Installation options include wall, ceiling and corner mounting, with support for adhesive, magnetic attachment or screws.
The FP400 differs from Aqara’s earlier FP2 by supporting both Matter and dual-protocol connectivity through Thread or Zigbee, depending on the setup. Aqara says it can work with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, Home Assistant, Homey and SmartThings, and can be added to the Aqara Home app without an Aqara hub if a third-party Thread border router is available. The device is listed at €79.99 in Europe, while Aqara’s international site gives a price of £79.99. Aqara is also offering an FP400 Pro variant aimed at assisted living and eldercare uses, with extra functions such as posture recognition and assisted fall detection.
