ASUS has introduced the ROG USB-C10G, a pocket-sized USB Ethernet adapter offering 10Gbps wired networking for laptops and desktops lacking PCIe slots, with broad compatibility and a detachable USB-C cable.
ASUS has quietly expanded its Republic of Gamers networking line with the ROG USB-C10G, a pocket-sized USB Ethernet adapter aimed at laptops and desktops that lack a free PCIe slot. According to TechPowerUp, the device measures 85 x 32 x 19 mm, weighs 38 grams and uses a detachable USB-C cable rather than a fixed lead, with a USB-C to USB-A adapter included for wider host compatibility.
The adapter is built to deliver 10Gbps wired networking over a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 connection, which ASUS says is useful for low-latency gaming, large file transfers and smoother streaming. The RJ45 port supports automatic negotiation down to 5Gbps, 2.5Gbps or 1Gbps, while a dual-colour LED shows the active link speed. ASUS also lists support for Windows 10 and Windows 11, alongside compatibility with Linux, macOS, iOS and Android, and says the dongle can add a second WAN link on selected Dual WAN routers.
TechPowerUp reported that the dongle is most likely based on Realtek’s RTL8159 controller, a chip already used in similar 10GbE adapters. That matters because USB overhead can reduce real-world speeds, with comparable products often landing in the 6Gbps to 8Gbps range rather than the full headline figure. The bundled USB-A adapter can also narrow available bandwidth further, and TechPowerUp noted that the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface is not supported on Macs in the same way as USB 3.2 Gen 2 and USB4 or Thunderbolt.
ASUS has not announced pricing or broad availability. TechPowerUp said it found a Norwegian retail listing equivalent to about $139 including VAT, which would point to a likely US price in the $100 to $120 range once the product reaches more markets.
