Athom has introduced native support for LEDVANCE SMART+ and OSRAM SMART+ lighting into its Homey platform, providing users with dedicated free apps and enhanced device compatibility to promote brand independence in smart home setups.
Athom has expanded Homey with native support for LEDVANCE SMART+ and OSRAM SMART+ lighting, giving users two free, dedicated apps in the Homey App Store and widening the range of third-party devices that can be folded into the platform. The move is aimed at households that already own smart bulbs, lamps and plugs from the two brands but have not been able to integrate them cleanly into a broader automation set-up.
The separation into two apps reflects the way the products are sold. LEDVANCE manufactures devices under its own SMART+ label and also produces lighting for OSRAM Homelighting under licence, so Athom has kept the integrations distinct to match those different retail lines. Homey’s own app listings show support for a broad mix of hardware, including classic and candle-style bulbs, spotlights, LED strips, tunable white panels, garden lighting and smart plugs and switches.
Once added, the devices can be controlled from the main Homey app for power, brightness, colour and colour temperature. Homey also says the integrations work with Flow and Advanced Flow, its automation layers that let users build routines around triggers such as motion, time or energy use. That means a power-monitoring plug, for example, can be used to start a wider household action rather than just switching a light on or off.
Athom chief executive Stefan Witkamp said the aim is to reduce brand lock-in in the smart home, arguing that users should be able to choose devices on merit rather than whether they belong to a single ecosystem. The company says the apps are available at no cost. For Homey Pro and Homey Pro mini, Zigbee and Matter devices are supported directly, while Homey Cloud and Homey Self-Hosted Server users need a Homey Bridge for Zigbee and a Thread Border Router for Matter-over-Thread devices. LEDVANCE’s own material says its SMART+ range is designed to work with common smart home platforms and support automation, remote control and energy management.
