Bose introduces second-generation Ultra Open Earbuds with improved battery life and new sound features

Bose has unveiled the second-generation Ultra Open Earbuds, featuring longer battery life, enhanced sound quality, and new spatial audio modes, as it expands its open-ear product portfolio for versatile, all-day listening.

Bose has refreshed its open-ear range with the second-generation Ultra Open Earbuds, positioning them as a premium option for all-day listening without sealing the ear canal. According to Bose’s announcement and coverage from Tom’s Guide and What Hi-Fi, the new model keeps the cuff-style format but adds a revised driver, stronger bass, clearer calls and a more refined fit for commuting, work and casual use.

The company says the earbuds support Snapdragon Sound and aptX Adaptive, while Bluetooth 5.4 and multipoint pairing are also included. Bose has added a new Cinema Mode, which uses its TrueSpatial processing to widen the soundstage for films and video. That places the product firmly in the emerging open-ear category, where the aim is to balance awareness of surroundings with more conventional stereo listening.

Battery life is one of the main upgrades. Bose says the earbuds last for up to nine hours on a charge, with the case extending total playback to 28.5 hours. Tom’s Guide and What Hi-Fi also report support for wireless charging and a package of software features in the Bose app, including Spotify Tap and voice assistant access. The model is rated IP54, giving limited protection against dust, sweat and splashes.

Bose has priced the Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) at $299, with pre-orders opening on 19 September and general availability set for 1 October. The launch comes alongside a second open-ear model, the Sport Open Earbuds, which Bose is targeting at runners and gym users. That version is cheaper at $199 and arrives as Bose continues to build a broader open-ear portfolio for users who want situational awareness without moving to bone-conduction designs.
