CIO has introduced the SMARTCOBY ULTRA SLIM SS5K, a compact power bank featuring a semi-solid-state battery, magnetic wireless charging, and a slim profile at approximately 6.83mm thick, aiming to set a new standard in portable charging.
CIO has launched a new compact power bank that pairs a 5,000mAh battery with a body thickness of about 6.83mm, as the company opened crowdfunding for the SMARTCOBY ULTRA SLIM SS5K on Makuake on 18 September 2026. The product is positioned as an attempt to extend the appeal of ultra-thin charging accessories beyond the smaller 3,000mAh class introduced by the firm last year.
The company says the design was reworked across the casing, battery cell, internal layout, circuit board and magnetic attachment surface, with measurements refined to the 0.01mm level. According to CIO, the aim was to preserve a slim profile without sacrificing usable capacity, an approach that has become harder to achieve as power banks have grown thicker in line with battery size.
To keep the chassis rigid despite its reduced profile, CIO has used a stainless-steel outer shell of about 0.30mm. Inside, the device uses a semi-solid-state battery cell measuring roughly 4.87mm, which the company says has undergone short-circuit, high-temperature, drop and crush testing. It comes in silver and black.
CIO also says the power bank uses its own NovaCore C3 safety design, which works with a companion app to show battery health, cycle count and cell temperature. The app connection requires a USB-C cable. The battery management system monitors voltage, current and temperature, and can limit output once a set temperature is reached. Charging features include magnetic wireless charging of up to 7.5W, USB-C wired output of up to 20W and full pass-through charging, allowing the phone and the power bank to be charged at the same time. The company’s listed retail price is 7,980 yen, while Makuake rewards start at 5,980 yen for an initial limited tier and 6,280 yen for the next offer.
